Act III – Scene.vi
Summary
This scene involves Lennox who is also suspicious of
Macbeth. The other Lords present advise Lennox that Macduff has fled from Scotland and is with Malcolm in England.
They have requested aid from King Edward the Confessor and they hope that with God’s help they will be able to overthrow the tyrannical Macbeth, and that Scotland can return to stability.
Interpretation
Until this part of the play, Lennox was thought to be
loyal to Macbeth, but the audience is now clear that the tide is turning, and the play is heading towards its inevitable climax.
The forces that will bring about Macbeth’s downfall are now being assembled
in England, and the audience is introduced to the other leaders of this rebellion, Northumberland and Siward.
